Originally conceived by Vincent Hänggi , Alex Muller Ramirez , and Adriano Perlini , HEX was formed in Geneva in 2011. Emerging from notable bands such as Equus and Commodore , the trio began with a stripped - down rock setup, two guitars and drums, laying the foundation for a sound defined by abrasion, repetition, linearity, and density.
In 2012, Vincent Devaud ( Forceed , Shelving , Equus ) and Nicola Todeschini ( Shora ) joined the project, thickening the sonic texture by adding bass and a third guitar. After a string of well - received shows in French - speaking Switzerland, this quintet formation expanded its aesthetic by integrating electronic gear and replacing the electric bass with synthesizers. In this renewed form, HEX toured extensively across the region, sharing the stage with international acts such as Spacemen 3 , The Soft Moon , and Psalm Zero . The band then launched the self - production of its debut album, under the artistic di rection of Hänggi. The vision for the record was ambitious: to push the boundaries of studio technology and transcend the raw structures of the compositions. The result is an album of extreme intensity, epic, psychedelic, and borderline overwhelming.
In 2024, the band entered a new era. Léa Martinez replaced Laure Betris , bringing both vocal power and artistic sensitivity, while Wladislas Marian ( Monte - charge ) succeeded Todeschini, adding further dynamism to HEX’s evolving sound. These changes sparked a fresh energy within the group, which continues to push the boundaries of its sonic identity.
The five musicians of HEX cook up a kind of brutalist and epic poetry that only a glance at their combined résumés can begin to explain. While the nocturnal tone and fascination with cyclical structures echo previous projects, HEX forges a distinct sound world, one that leaves a lasting mark on the listener. That spell is hard to break.
At the core of HEX’s near - orchestral sonic scope lies a dense rhythmic base: p ounding drums, sequenced pulses, and grinding guitars. From this hypnotic pressure rise synthetic strings and spectral incantations. HEX knows how to handle grandeur, drawing as much from four decades of tense Hollywood film scoring (from György Ligeti to John Carpenter ) as from the twisted melodies and darkness of Rock In Opposition . The band’s sonic punch also carries traces of EBM , a flair for the ethereal reminiscent of 4AD, and the raw drive of hardcore punk. The result, across just four tracks, is a w ork of maximalist precision for the 21st century.
